The one-day, all-expense-paid trip takes us from Melbourne to Orlando by bus, a flight to Baltimore International Airport, and a bus ride to visit the memorials. There we visit the USAF, WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Iwo Jima, and Women's Memorials as well as the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
On each trip we transport 30 Veterans, 30 Guardian Escorts, and 30 wheel chairs. Meals are provided for the entire day.
Each trip consists of a:
1. Mandatory Pre-Trip Orientation two weeks prior to the flight
2. Trip to Washington D.C.
3. Celebratory Reunion 4-6 weeks after the trip
Veterans must attend the pre-trip orientation two weeks prior to their departure. During Orientation, they will: be introduced to fellow Veterans, have a picture taken, interface with their Guardian, be familiarized with the trip plan, and briefly review their medical records with a doctor.
SCHF Veteran scheduling is based on the following priorities and calls to schedule an actual trip will be made to Veterans in these categories based on the postmark/receipt date of the application:
1. Any Critically Ill Veteran
2, World War II Veterans (Service through 1948)
3. Korean War Veterans (Service 1949 to 1954)
4. Vietnam Veterans (Service 1955 to 1975)
5. Recent conflicts (Service 1976 to present)
